Abelon is made in a Greek village called Nea Gonia and is a 100% certified organic distillate from one type of grape. Abelon is produced in a micro-distillery controlled environment for optimal fermentation and distillation results.
This Greek brandy is distilled in Alembic copper stills and then matured for several years in perfect humidity and temperature conditions in new French oak barrels.
The spirit of each barrel is bottled unfiltered at an alcohol content of 48%. Each bottle is sealed with natural Portuguese cork and crowned with an engraved gold ring: a testament to Abelon's commitment to excellence.
I really enjoyed it, I believe it is very high in esters.
Lovely wood oak notes, of course the taste of grapes/raisins, but also a hint of cider!
Quite smooth, especially when you consider that it contains 48% alcohol.
A nice, long and somewhat sharp (but not ethanol-ish) aftertaste that makes you want to take another sip. And another.
I made a delicious winter cocktail with it.
Here are the specifications:
45ml Abelon Organic
15ml Red Vermouth
5ml Amaro Montenegro
1 star anise
1 cinnamon stick
2 cloves
A few juniper berries
1 orange peel
1 lemon peel
Stir all ingredients with ice until your cocktail is ice cold.
Pour into your most festive cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon peel and 2 cloves for that wintery and crisp aroma.
